35mm film shot one month before the COVID-19 pandemic

Post-processed with pandemic-approved chemicals: Lysol, Advil, hand sanitzer

Set in an ideal pastoral green landscape, Auspice, 2020 feels like an omen. The main figure, draped in white and wearing a mask bends down, seemingly talking to someone out of our field of vision. Red edges create a sense of tunnel vision, and we know that masked figure is coming for us next. Veronica An artfully places us in a dreams-cape, drawing connections to the threats we face from a pandemic and how those threats impact us psychologically. Things we used to enjoy are dangerous, places we once frequented are dangerous, and every person is now a threat to our well-being. It is a symbol of our growing sense of distrust of the world around us, as well as our own sense of reality. You can see more work in IncuArt’s exhibition, Hindsight 2020 Was A
